power updates

Hey folks. heres the current state of energy affairs:

The three documents that we need are (1) Certificate of Incorporation, (2) Notarized Lease, (3) EIN documentation.

(1) Our papers of incorporation have finally been accepted!!! Unfortunately they will not send out the documents until friday, so we will probably receive them next tuesday. I tried to argue this point, but they will not fax it and they will not expedite service without a 100 fee or something like this.

(2) our EIN information, if mailed, would take 2 weeks to arrive, but they will fax it, and so i will receive the fax at school today or tomorrow.

(3) Mike has asked yoel about the lease, so he can give us an update on that in teh next few.

********NOTE******* Because I know a lot of people have been asking what the fuck is up with the energy, I will briefly detail the process that we've been going through so that everyone at 123 can confidently say we've been doing everything we can as fast as we can (this is just starting a week and a half ago, for the runaround previous to that, yall can ask me or mike). You don't have to read this unless you want to, there's no pertinent info only a description of how hard we're working:

Concerning the Certificate of Incorporation, I faxed in the papers first early last week, with expedited 24-hour processing, and called the following day, and it was rejected because in the description of what we do, I Included "managing and maintaining space for community events and resources", and they said that "managing space is not a non-profit activity" (whateverrr!!!), so i had to re-write and re-apply, and i faxed it in the following day again expediting the processing, called the day after that, and it was rejected again because (1) I wrote that we held "free screenings of films about important issues" and the reader did not know what it meant to "screen" a film (she was like, "does that mean make a film? what does that mean? I dont' know so i can't accept it.") and (2) because I had used the phrase "some examples are" when describing what we do, which is apparently not allowed (???!!!). So I rewrote it and faxed it again, and today i've called and they have accepted it, and as i said, will send out the fling papers on friday, to be received sometime around tuesday.

Concerning the EIN, I received an amazing IRS run-around, with one dept transferring me to another and back and forth and back and forth, finally when I found the place where they can send us the document we need (called a "147c letter") they would not fax it to me immediately because i had said that I wasn't actually in the same room as the fax machine, and they would only do it if I was "right beside" the fax machine, which is unfortunate because otherwise i coudl have them faxed to my school who can email me faxes that they receive under my name.

I have probably spent cumulatively close to 4 hours on the phone about these two things in the past four days, which doesn't include all the faxing time and writing and editing time. I'm REALLY REALLY NOT saying this to get pity or "oh sorry francesca" or anythign like htat, it's what has to be done and that's totally fine, I just want everyone to be able to tell annoyed patrons of 123 that we are really fucking trying hard with this stuff, that our extended electricity problem is NOT because we haven't been working really really hard on it, it actually IS because the beurocracy suxxxxxxxxx. and maybe hates us. It should also be noted that mike has physically gone to coned's putrid office down at metrotech i think at least three times (and i went once before that), and of course spent hours and hours dealing with the paperwork and phonecalls too.
