Picture This! is a free program designed to help young people from the
Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn develop useful skills as a
means of expression and self-discovery.

Working with experienced volunteers, children involved in the program
learn to use photography and creative writing as tools to examine their
lives, communities, families and environment.

Picture This! is taught by photojournalist Andrew Stern and writer Glass
D. Neary along with other volunteers from the 123 Community Space. It draws
inspiration and lesson plans from The International Center of
Photography's Focus on Photography: A Curriculum Guide which is designed
to inform educators about the many possibilities and interdisciplinary
applications of photographic education in school and after-school
settings (grades K-12). The guide is free may be downloaded at:
www.icp.org/museum/education/curriculum_guide. Picture This! combines
training in visual literacy through discussions and writing with hands
on photographic assignments and activities.

All materials and services are provided free by Picture This! and the
123 Space, and we are currently seeking funding and both monetary and
equipment donations.
